Historical events

- 1282 - first historical mention referring to Krosno. Krosno is mentioned as one of 34 real estates of the bishopric of Lubusza in a document issued by Leszek Czarny (the Black), Duke of Kraków. - ca. 1300 - first sacred building is erected in Krosno (now the presbytery of the Franciscan Church).

- 1340 - as a result of annexation of Halych Ruthenia (now: the western part of Ukraine) by King Casimir III the Great, Krosno becomes a permanent part of the Kingdom of Poland.
- 1342 - the Krosno parish is established. The erection of the Krosno parish church starts.
- mid-15th century - King Casimir III the Great founds the town, granting it a town chart pursuant to the Teutonic (German) law.
- 1365 - King Casimir III the Great grants the right to set up a sheep-shearer’s shops and cloth frames
- 1367- first mentions about the construction of the town fortification walls. In the same year King Casimir III the Great confirms the disposal of hereditary aldermanship of Michał and Janusz, then aldermen, to Peszko of Tarnów.
- 1399 – Krosno is granted the grounds of the Szczepańsowa Wola village by King Ladislaus Jagiello.
- 1403 - the Krosno guild of butchers is granted the Statutes. It is one of the oldest guild documents preserved in Poland.
- 1413 – there are two schools in Krosno.
- 15th century - Krosno becomes a significant centre of cloth and fustian manufacturing. The Holy Spirit church and hospital are set up in the Cracow suburb area.
- 1460 - St. Wojciech (Adalbert) church is erected in Zawodzie (a part of the town across the river Wisłok).
- 1461 – King Casimir IV (Jagiellonian) gives permission for installation of a wooden water supply pipeline in the town, pumping water from the water intake on the river Lubatówka. It is one of the first municipal water supply systems in Poland. The water-main operated until the beginning of the 19th century.
- 1473 and 1474 - Krosno successfully forces back two Hungarian attempts of invasion.
- 1482 – pest decimates the town.
- 1500 – fire consumes the town.
- 16th century – period of the greatest prosperity and importance of the town. Krosno is encircled by the double fortification walls as one of few towns in Poland. The town is a strong centre of trade, especially of woollen cloth and Hungarian wine. Krosno has got about 4 thousand inhabitants at that time.
- 1523 – the Municipal Council purchases the aldermanship from private hands for 2400 florens.
- 1530 – a Lutheran church is founded in Krosno.
- the 30s of the 16th century – construction of the outer line of the town walls is started on the north and south side of the town.
- 1559 – King Sigismundus Augustus grants the right of storage for the goods imported from Hungary, establishes the third fair day, allocates tax revenue for construction of the town fortifying walls.
- 1614 – the Jesuits are brought to Krosno; soon they set up a reputed college.
- 1618 – a panoramic view of Krosno is published in a work by G. Braun and F. Hogenberg entitled "Civitates orbis terrarum".
- 1638 – a violent fire in the town.
- 1638 - 1646 – thorough rebuilding of the parish church.
- 1656 – King John Casimir, returning to Poland, stops in the town and announces a manifesto calling peasants to fight Swedes.
- 1657 – the town successfully repels the attack of Rakosi Hungarian troops.
- 1661 – King John Casimir grants the right for two more fair days in the town.
- 18th century –period of slow decline of the town; the town walls are gradually pulled down; the fall of commerce and trade.
- 1753 – the Capuchins’ order is brought to the town; they build a church and a cloister outside the city walls (construction was completed in 1811).
- 1764 – King Stanislaus Augustus Poniatowski confirms the town’s rights and privileges.
- 1772 – as a result of the first partition of Poland Krosno is captured by the Austrians.
- 1774 – a state secondary school opens in the place of the Jesuits’ college, closed a year before.
- 1846 – the peasant riot; Wincenty Pol, a famous poet, is beaten during the peasants’ assault of Tytus Trzecieski’s manor house in Polanka.
- 1867 – the Krosno powiat (=county, borough) is set up. The town area is expanded on the Guzikówka village.
- 1872 – almost all furnishings of the Franciscan church are burnt down in the fire of the town.
- 1874 – Loan Society is set up.
- 1884 – a railway line comes to the town.
- 1887 – Weaving School is set up.
- 1892 – “Sokół” (Falkon) Gymnastics Society is set up.
- 1895 – Male Teachers Training College is set up.
- 1898 – Farming/Agriculture School in Suchodół is set up.
- 1900 – Modern (Real) Secondary School (College) is set up (at present Secondary School of General Education No1).
- 1901 – the First Country Tower Clocks Factory is set up by Michał Mięsowicz (it operated till 1938).
- 1905 – a crude oil refinery is put into operation. The town becomes an oil-industry centre.
- 1914 – the outbreak of World War I. The town is captured and re-captured by fighting troops several times during the Russian-Austrian combat.
- 1918 – the town is granted permission for erection of flax breaking plant and spinning mill, later on “Krosnolen” Flax Trade Plant.
- 1919 – the beginning of installation of the natural gas supply pipeline.
- 1920 – glassware manufacturing plant is started (now Krosno Glass Factory). Krosno becomes the largest glass industry centre in Poland.
- 1924 – the town area is expanded to incorporate the villages of Krościenko Wyżne and Białobrzegi. 
- 1928 – “Wudeta” Rubber Plant is set up.
- 1932 – the Krosno airport is opened.
- 1938 – Aviation School is shifted from Bydgoszcz to Krosno.
- 8 September, 1939 – the town comes under German occupation.
- 11 September 1944 – the town is recaptured by the Soviet troops.
- 1945 – the State-Owned Tractors and Agricultural Machinery Station is set up, later transformed into “Polmo” Shock Absorbers Factory. Gliders Manufacture Workshop is set up, later transformed into WSK (Transport Equipment and Machinery Plant). The Oil Industry Secondary Vocational School is restored, now: Oil and Gas Vocational Schools Complex.
- 1946 – Sports Footwear Factory is set up.
- 1947 – County Public Library is set up.
- 1949 – Town Public Library is set up.
- 1954 – County Public Library and Town Public Library are merged.
- 1954 – the PTTK Krosno Regional Museum is established, now it is Muzeum Podkarpackie (Sub-Carpathian Museum, Museum of the Podkarpacie Region). [PTTK = Polish Tourist Country-Lovers’ Association].
- 1958 – the village of Suchodół gets incorporated into the town.
- 1966 – the town area gets expanded to incorporate the village of Polanka.
- 1972 – the area of the village of Turaszówka gets incorporated into the town.
- 1975 – the County Public Library and the Town Public Library are transformed into the Province Public Library.
- 30 VI 1975 – as a result of the administration reform the powiat (county/borough) of Krosno is liquidated and Krosno becomes the capital of the new-established Krosno Province. The Krosno Cultural Centre is established (based on the former “Górnik” Culture Centre).
- 1982 – the Office of Artistic Exhibitions is set up.
- 1987 – the opening of the Province Public Library new premises is celebrated.
- 1989 – the Craft Museum is set up.
- 1990 – the Foreign Languages Teachers Training College is establihed.
- 1992 – the Fine Arts Secondary School is moved from Miejsce Piastowe to Krosno.
- 10 VI 1997 – Pope John Paul II visits the town. During the Mass on the Krosno air-field, blessed John of Dukla is canonized. The Pope also consecrates the St. Peter and the St. John of Dukla church.
- 1999 – the Library originator, status and name are changed as a result of the state administration reform. The Province Public Library is transformed into the Krosno Public Library.
- 1 I 1999 - administration reform of the country. The Krosno Province is liquidated. The town / municipality is granted the rights of a powiat (county, borough = second level of local government administration in Poland). The Krosno Powiat is also founded, incorporating the territories of nine neighbouring districts/communes.
-1999 – State Higher Vocational School is established in Krosno.
- August, 2000 – the official website www.krosno.pl is started.
- September, 2000 – a modern waste water treatment plant is put into operation.
- 21st -22nd September, 2000 – the Nicolaus Copernicus Secondary School of General Education 100th anniversary jubilee
- 2001 – association of “Krosno tętniące życiem” (Krosno – a town vibrant with life) is founded.
- April, 2002 – new “Portius” association is founded.
- May, 2002 – 3rd Mountain Balloon Contest in Krosno
- 29th May, 2002 – the west part of the Krosno Old Market Square is put into public use.
- October, 2002 – the Electrical Engineering Schools Complex in Krosno 50th anniversary celebration, since 1st September, 2008 its name is Post-Secondary Schools Complex No 5.
- 10th November, 2002 – Piotr Przytocki is the first Mayor in the history of Krosno elected in direct election.
- 2003 – the Nicolaus Copernicus 1st Secondary School of General Education is rated 16th in the country and 1st in the Province, in the best secondary schools ranking.
- May, 2003 – 4th Mountain Balloon Contest is held in Krosno along with the 19th Poland’s Ballooning Championship and the Days of Hungarian Culture.
- May, 2003 – Krosno establishes cooperation with UNO.
- July, 2003 – Krosno Glass Factory 80th anniversary jubilee.
- October, 2003 – a roundabout is completed at the main post office.
- October, 2003 – the Main Reading Room and the Artistic Salon are set up in the place of the „Legenda” night club.
- December, 2003 – sports and entertainment hall at Bursaki Street is officially opened to the public.
- January, 2004 – the Krosno Amateur Hall Football League is established.
- 2005 – the District Information Centre (Gminne Centrum Informacji) in Krosno is established to facilitate access to comprehensive information on the labour market for graduates, unemployed and those looking for a job.
- January, 2005 – “Profeteum”, a professional theatre, starts its activity.
- February, 2005 – Youth Municipal Council of Krosno is established.
- April, 2005 – Pope John Paul II dies. Commemorating Municipal Council Session, White March and Holy Mass and commemoration service attended by the youth, as part of memorial celebrations.
- April, 2005 – a fountain is put into use on the Krosno Old Market Square.
- May, 2005 – 6th Mountain Balloon Contest.
- 14th July, 2006 – opening ceremony of the bridge at Asnyka street.
- 28th September, 2006 – Waste Treatment Plant is put into operation, rubbish dump modernization.
- 8 XI 2006 – opening of refurbished cellars in a 16th-century period house, Rynek (Market Square) 5. The Piwnica PodCieniami (arcade/shadowy cellar) club hosts exhibitions, chamber concerts and conferences.
- 24th April, 2007 – Krosno Public Library 60th anniversary jubilee.
- May, 2007 – 8th Mountain Balloon Contest.
- May, 2007 – opening ceremony of the indoor swimming pool at the Town Schools Complex with Integrated Forms, at Wojska Polskiego street.
- 14th July, 2007 – a trip of Krosno inhabitants to a Hungarian town of Sárospatak, a historical date for Polish-Hungarian friendship.
- August, 2007 – the Robert Wojciech Portius 5th Jubilee Festival of Hungarian Wines and the Karpackie Klimaty (Carpathian Climates) events.
- September, 2007 – opening of Galeria Portius shopping centre and a hotel as an example of public and private entities partnership.
- 22nd August, 2008 opening of the concert hall in the Borderland Cultures Regional Centre at Kolejowa street.
- 29th - 31st August, 2008 – Karpackie Klimaty (Carpathian Climates) events and the Portius Festival of Hungarian Wines.
- October, 2008 - "Mała Gracja", a Krosno formation, takes the first price in the Formation Dancing Championships of Poland.
- 17 October, 2008– the 120th anniversary jubilee celebrations of Secondary Schools Complex No 1, known under popular name of “Szczepanik”.
- 7November, 2008opening of the Skate Park at Wojska Polskiego street.
