Krosno Fair
The tradition of fairs in Krosno dates back to the 17th century, when they were held at the Feast of the Holy Trinity, the Feast of Simon and Jude, the Apostles and in mid-Lent. At that time, the town belonged to the grandest ones in Małopolska. The fairs were attended by merchants even from Bochnia. The mercers arranged their stands on the market square and on the marketplace near the Hungarian Gate. The town flag was displayed on the Town Hall, which was a signal to start the fair trading.
As a continuation of this tradition the Krosno Fair (Jarmark Krośnieński) has been held annually for many years. There is an artistic show, held on the Old Town Square in June, where children and youth groups and bands from various schools and cultural centres give their performances. The Mayor of Krosno hands out the awards for cultural achievements and the day ends with a concert of a star. As a usual thing with fairs, the performances and concerts are accompanied by the Fair of Artistic Works.
